My goodness, what a busy little bee I’ve been. You guys have been sending me so many good places to visit; they can’t all possibly wait until the weekend. So when my good friend called yesterday asking if I wanted to go to the spa, I immediately thought of a suggestion a reader told me about called Jeju Sauna in Atlanta .
I’d done a bit of research on it, and was really a bit both excited and nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. We’d heard that everyone just walked around butt-booty-balls naked; men, women, and children. Afraid but intrigued, we set out on our journey.
We arrived at Jeju at 10:30 pm. Yes, 10:30 on a Tuesday night. Did I forget to mention, they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? When we waked in the 1st thing we noticed was how clean everything looked. Very pleased, we approached the front counter, where we were given an armband with a micro-chipped code that all services would be charged to. It was also the key to our shoe locker, and our personal belongings locker. So James Bond right?
We paid our $25 admission which entitled us to spend 24 hours in the spa. This includes access to the pool, fitness centers, igloos, hot tubs, steam rooms, infra-red room, arcade, sleep hall, and restaurant. We were also given a shirt and shorts (pink for girls, brown for guys) and instructed to always wear them in the common areas where the men & children were. Then they took us to the back where we were to change clothes. Since we were there to have services rendered, we were told to strip and jump right in, and when I say strip, I mean TOTALLY NUDE. The only thing we were allowed to wear was our shower caps ‘cuz u know we weren’t trying to get our weaves wet. You can’t even wear shower shoes (believe me I tried).
Feeling a bit timid but intrigued, our tour guide went through all the services they offer with us. We chose a hip bath ($30), a body scrub, a green tea facial, and a massage, (all three for $100.00).
1st we took a shower, the 1st of 3 for the evening. Then came the hip bath. Imagine a wooden box with a hole in it. Underneath is a bowl of 19 different herbs. You sit on it covered in a smock, imagine the cape you wear at the salon, but it’s made of plastic, and it covers your feet.
They heat the herb, and the steam literally stews you for 45 minutes. It goes into your “private parts” and EVERYTHING comes out. Discharge, #1, and #2. It’s supposed to be good for cramps, cleansings, infections, and it works. PS…we were rubbing elbows with a Black Hollywood star; Sorry I can’t tell you who it is, I’m sure she wouldn’t want yall to know she was somewhere $h!tt!n’ on a box! LOL!
Afterwards shower, (PLEASE) #2, then onto the body scrub. They scrubbed my skin for 45 minutes straight! All kinds of dead skin came off. It was like heaven. Next shower #3, then the massage. Oils, tension, stress….pure bliss. Last was the green tea facial... My face was glowing and dewy when I left. After 3 hours, we got dresses and prepared to head home. You pay for your services afterwards. (They hold a license or car key as insurance.) $175 total each for the evening (including $20 tip for the masseur.)
Ladies, all I can say is you HAVE to try this place. I can’t wait to go back with all my girls. You will lose all inhibitions of being naked in front of others as soon as they start your body scrub.
10 out of 10 stars! Shouts out to Keisha for the suggestion! Keep them coming.
Btw…Sorry there’s no pics. Kinda self-explanatory J

Okay its a plan, we are going to go on my next visit to the Peachy City!
ReplyDeleteI gotta find something fab like this in the Windy City. Suggestions please!
ReplyDeleteWell the Jeju sauna is not going to get a good rating from us because of a recent incident there. In fact they do not deserved to be rated at all.
ReplyDeleteOn a recent visit with four girlfriends recently we were in the middle of showering and one our girlfriends was rinsing out an undergarment when she was confronted by a spa worker who asked her not to use the bar soap to do this with - explaining other people use that soap - it was a bar of soap. Our friend explained that the bar soap was regularly used on skin-to-soap contact and that it stood more of a chance to become contaminated doing that. She also pointed out that there were no signs stating that undergarments not be rinsed out in the shower. She further suggested that Jeju consider supplying only liquid soap dispensers, or single use soap bars, like hotels and motels, which were overall safer when it comes to transferring contaminants. With that the employee left.
My girlfriend continued to shower when this employee came back and saw her still holding the undergarment in her hand in the shower. The Jeju employee became quite indignant and irritated and yelled at our friend who was only holding the undergarment for not wanting to lay them down on the shower floor. At this point she asked our friend to leave immediately, and the other three in the group (including me and a small child) were told to leave since we were all together.
Somewhere in all this Diane, the manager became involved. We did nothing to warrant this mistreatment by Jeju. Further, and the most disgusting part, security was called and a male security person by the name of Tony entered the locker room. I was nude as well as one of my friends! I asked him to leave that we were naked and he said I could not tell him where he could go. This was very humiliating to experience.
This whole disgusting event was totally uncalled for and highly embarrassing and stressful for all us attending. I am considering legal action. There was a purposeful invasion of privacy when the spa allowed a male to enter the locker room with naked females present. It was beyond embarrassing. We all paid for 24 hours and were told we would not get a refund. Diane was laughing when we left but believe me there was nothing to laugh at. I question her ability and skills to manage this establishment properly.
So if you want to possibly be humiliated beyond reason then go to this spa which is run by highly unreasonable people. This is not how we do business in America. We expect to be heard, and a modicum of respect. I wish everyone would protest this place and boycott participation in their business.
Sorry "ambo". I'm afraid I most definitely agree with the Je Ju staff on this one. Your friend was in the wrong. Not only were her actions not sanitary but they were inconsiderate to the other patrons. Soap can be contaminated and quite frankly, I'm surprised that you nor any of your friends were reasonable enough to come to this conclusion.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the anonymous comment above....word for word!
ReplyDeleteI really want to visit here but I am size 26/28 BIG lady. Is the outfit u r given going to fit me?
ReplyDeleteYou're totally fine!! There are tons of women all shapes and sizes...and I do mean..ALL sizes. Im actually about to head out now to go stay the night..
DeleteThank you so much you just gave me something to do to start my weekend off. I will be going Friday night.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure a lot of people are green with envy right now! Your whole experience sounded so fabulous! Aside from all the wonderful services you experienced and enjoyed, what made the whole visit special is that you spent it with a dear friend. You got to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy at the same time. I would love to hear about your next visit. :)

Wow wow wow. I have been going to JeJu for nearly 5 years now. I have no problems with the staff as they know me and my children. I am appalled as a black woman to see others acting this way! Let me start with the whole "Hip Bath", as this is NOT a toilet, and you should have never used it in that way! So the poor woman that runs that room had to clean your MESS (literally) once you where done? That is beyond disgusting! And for the woman washing her under garments with the bar of soap, had I been there, I would have reported it to management myself.
ReplyDeleteCan we not go somewhere and act as civilized adults with common sense? We are shitting in pots of herbs now? SMDH
I totally agree that people need common sense to not do disgusting things as you said.
ReplyDeleteMy first time at this sauna I felt funny being naked around the same sex. I am straight so that's why but I just wish this was a co-ed sauna where both males/females can be all naked in steam/dry sauna. Its not sex crap. Its just a body, and if anyone is ashame to be seen naked get a life, again it is just a body.
ReplyDeleteYou have to go to Germany for that! It's like that all over there.
DeleteCould we possibly wear a swimsuit in the hot tub ? Or could we wear a swim suit in the pool since the pool is in the common area? Also for the hip bath, are we in individual wooden boxes? My friends and I really want to try this, but we are really nervous about the nudity lol.
